Doug Bragg Enterprises Ltd. Single head ,side mount mower has one hydraulically
driven 5-foot head. A piston-type, high speed ,hydraulic motor powers the
mower rotor. A PTO-mounted pump provides the oil supply to this motor.
The head is mounted to the right side of the tractor ahead of the rear drive
wheels, directly to the chassis on a hinged lower boom that protrudes out
past the rear wheel. This boom is hydraulically raised and lowered using the
tractors won hydraulic flow from the remote oil ports on the rear of the tractor.
The mower head is attached to this boom with a hinge point that is designed
to allow vertical movement of 90 degrees below horizontal.
Provided the tractor has a float position on it's remote port controls, this
design allows the head to follow the contour of the ground while rolling on
it's rear roller. This also enables the mower head to be carried and held
in a vertical position for traveling.
There are twenty-five of these units in operation throughout the province
of Nova Scotia. The majority of these units are owned and operated by the
Department of Transportation and Public Works. Units are also in use in bush
cutting operations and roadside mowing in the state of Maine, USA.
